Synopsis

Johnnies: Book Two Ten years ago David Worral had plans to go to college and the potential for a beautiful future in front of him. One tragic accident later, he fled to California and reinvented himself as Dex, top porn model of Johnnies. Dex’s life is a tangled mess now, but the guys he works with only see the man who makes them believe even porn stars can lead normal lives. When Kane, one of Dex’s coworkers, gets kicked out of his house, the least Dex can do is give him a place to stay. Kane may be a hyperactive muscle-bound psycho, but he’s also a really nice guy. What could be the harm? Except nothing is simple—not sex, not love, and not the goofy kid with the big dick and bigger heart who moves his life into Dex’s guest room. When they start negotiating fractured pasts and broken friends, Dex wonders if Kane’s honest nature can untangle the sadness that stalled his once-promising future. With Kane by his side, Dex just might be able to reclaim the boy he once was—and if he can do that, he can give Kane the home and the family he deserves.

Debra’s Quick Bite

With a new Johnnies book coming out this week, I realized I've never recommended this one as a Quick Bite even though it's one of my favorite books (along with the first, Chase in Shadow).

Beautiful, heartbreaking, fun, sexy, angsty and romantic it'll have you laughing, crying and everything else in between. Kane is a big teddy bear and Dex is possibly one of the nicest human beings on the planet. The two form a friendship when Dex does what he does best, takes care of Kane when he needs it. But soon, it's Kane taking care of Dex, who didn't know he needed taking care of. Both Dex and Kane have a lot they need to deal with personally and professionally, and while they are a great support for each other, I adore the way the whole Johnnies crew are there for them as well, forming a family where so many of them can't count on their blood families.

It's a story that has heavy emotion, light fun moments, and a solid friends-to-lovers romance with two men who are so very different, but so very good for each other.  A book I've read over and over again and can highly recommend.

Risky Behaviour by L.A.Witt and Cari Z

Synopsis

It’s day one of Darren Corliss’s career as a detective, and not only has he been assigned a notoriously difficult partner, but the guy might also be a pill-popping dirty cop. Internal Affairs needs proof, and Darren gets to be their eyes and ears whether he wants to or not.

Detective Andreas Ruffner doesn’t play by the rules, and he doesn’t play well with others. With bodies piling up and a list of suspects who are way above his pay grade, the last thing he needs is a wet-behind-the-ears kid for a partner. Or babysitter. Not even if that partner is easy on the eyes.

As Darren gains Andreas’s hard-won trust, they both realize there’s more than just mutual suspicion simmering beneath the surface. But their investigation is heating up as quickly as their relationship, and Darren has no choice but to go along with Andreas’s unorthodox—and borderline unethical—methods. As IA puts the squeeze on Darren to give up the man he’s falling for, he has to wonder—is Andreas the only cop left in this town who isn’tdirty?

Jane’s Quick Bite

This is the first book in a brilliant four part series, which I just adore and read back to back. We have a gruff, surly detective, Andreas Ruffner, who doesn't want a partner, happier going it alone, a pill popping father of four. He is partnered with newly minted younger detective Darren Corliss. They both have major trust issues, especially as Darren is told to report on his partner to internal affairs. Darren isn't put off by Andreas’s gruff nature and doesn't like being kept out of the loop. When Darren discovers Andreas’s secret, their relationship changes as does the dynamic.

Darren is the stepson of the recently retired Police Commissioner and together with his mum is caring for his older brother Asher who has early onset dementia, a heartbreaking theme of the series.

Together, Darren and Andreas are investigating a narcotics ring and are determined to bring it down from the top. Everyone is involved from dirty cops and judges to the corrupt mayor. The plot is great edge of your seat stuff with a villain you will love to hate and the relationship that develops between Andreas and Darren will keep you turning the pages. A brilliant start to what is a fascinating, gripping series. Highly recommended.

All in all a thoroughly enjoyable read. An exciting murder / mystery, great MCs and two adorable kids. Excellently written and thought out with a HFN ending. Lets see where this relationship will go. Will Mac's closet collapse around him?

Mapping the Forest (Rocky Mountain Boys Book 1)

Synopsis

A Rocky Mountain Boys Novel.

Happily ever after has no map, but sometimes fate sends a guiding light.

Gabe Rice, a seasonal ranger at the Rocky Mountain National Park, can’t seem to get his life on the right trail. He loves the rugged beauty of the land, and there is no place he would rather live than the mountain community of Estes Park. But after six years, Gabe is beginning to wonder if he’ll ever get a full-time position or find love. When Gabe sees Luis—and hears his gorgeous singing—he’s compelled to meet him.

Luis Martinez, the new owner of a hotel and steak ride business in Estes, left California and a career as a therapist for a fresh start in Colorado. But even the beauty of the mountains can’t help him forget the past or move forward. Unprepared for his strong attraction to Gabe, Luis is ready to run and hide from emotions he never thought he’d have again.

Suddenly the path ahead opens to a future that looks brighter for both of them, if they can find the courage to walk forward—together.

Jay’s Quick Bite

Restarting your life or just moving on can be a true struggle.
Having been in Colorado for GRL, it was fun to pick up a book set in the area. And this is the first in a series, with a second already out.

Gabe is trying to make his life work. He’s a seasonal park ranger who is battling with not getting ahead in his career and facing work his career to make a living. He’s still trying to figure out his life. Meanwhile, Luis is starting a new life after the death of his husband. He’s bought a hotel and jeep wilderness tour company and he’s not sure what he’s doing but he is trying to move forward.  Their two worlds collide and it takes a few starts and stops to develop into something truly special.

Witt sets up this series with a great introduction to the characters the stories will evolve around. I enjoy that they aren’t freshly out but established in their lives. Even with age, their lives don’t always come with wisdom as they all try to navigate their futures. While the two main characters are well introduced, it takes a bit to adjust to all the other characters and their relations to each other, but that always happens when you meet a group of established friends. And these character will become your friends as you enjoy their various quirks, flaws, and desires. The second book is as good as the first. The books are really enjoyable reads that have been well kept in my memory and I look forward to visiting them again soon.
